Our story, since 2009

Dr. Hess knew he wanted to be a dentist in elementary school, and he knew he wanted to be one here. He grew up in the Dayton area, studied at Wright State and Ohio State, and in 2009 came home to Centerville. Today more than 3,000 patients call this practice their dental home.

His philosophy is simple: patient education is key. From the most basic procedure to the most advanced, you are shown the need and the reason first.

How a visit feels

Explained first, done gently.

“The care is explained and thorough,” one patient wrote. Here is what sits behind that.

01

For anyone who dreads the chair

The problem: putting off treatment because the last visit went badly.

Dr. Hess is board certified to administer oral conscious sedation, often called sleep dentistry. You stay relaxed, longer procedures are easier to sit through, and several treatments can be done in one visit. Bring someone to drive you home.

02

See what the dentist sees

The problem: being told a tooth needs work and taking it on faith.

An intraoral camera, in some cases just a few millimeters long, puts clear, enlarged images of your teeth and gums on a screen, showing details a mirror can miss. The images are saved to your record and can be printed for you.

03

Clean you can ask about

The problem: the part of a dental office nobody shows you.

The whole team follows OSHA, EPA and CDC procedures: gloves and masks, disinfected surfaces, disposable materials, and every reusable instrument, handpieces included, sterilized in an autoclave before each use.

Four things people ask about most.

Dental implants

Small titanium posts in the jaw bond with the bone over three to six months, then Dr. Hess makes the new teeth. You are evaluated by Dr. Hess or an oral surgeon he refers you to. Six to eight months in all.

Teeth whitening

Custom trays from impressions of your own teeth, usually ready to pick up in a day or two. You wear them with the whitening gel for a few hours a day.

Tooth-colored restorations

No new silver fillings. Old ones can be replaced with bonded tooth-colored inlays and onlays, which takes two appointments and adds strength to the tooth.

Dentures

Conventional dentures after the gums have healed, or immediate dentures placed the day teeth come out. Relines keep the fit as the gums change over time.

Advanced technology

Less exposure, a clearer picture.

Dr. Hess chooses carefully which x-rays are taken and when, following established guidelines. The point of the technology is to see problems sooner and explain them better.

  • Digital imagingAbout 50 percent less exposure than traditional x-rays, and cavities can be easier to see. Images can be sent straight to a specialist or your insurer.
  • Intraoral cameraEnlarged images of your own teeth on screen, which can mean a faster diagnosis and less time in the chair.
  • Infection controlSteam autoclave sterilization of every reusable instrument, to OSHA, EPA and CDC procedures.

Common questions

What people ask before they book.

Do you take my insurance?

We accept most PPO insurance plans and work with you to get the most from the benefits you have. Plans change often, so please call 937-433-8303 to confirm yours, and bring your insurance information to your first visit.

I get anxious about the dentist. Can you help?

Yes. Tell us when you call. Dr. Hess is board certified to administer oral conscious sedation, often called sleep dentistry. You take a prescribed pill and stay relaxed through treatment, and several treatments can often be done in one visit. You will need someone to drive you home.

I have a toothache. Can I be seen today?

Call the office. If you are in pain or have an emergency, every attempt is made to see you that same day.

What happens at my first visit?

An examination and a review of your treatment options. Often treatment can be done or started the same day. Bring any x-rays from a previous dentist, a list of your medications and your insurance details. Patients under 18 need a parent or guardian with them.

When should my child first see the dentist?

Just after their third birthday. The first visit is short and gentle: a look at the teeth and gums, perhaps a cleaning and fluoride, and tips for you on caring for your child's teeth at home.

How do I pay, and do you offer payment plans?

We accept Visa, MasterCard and Discover, and payment is due at the time of your visit unless arranged in advance. A monthly payment plan can be set up, as long as it is agreed before the treatment begins.
